#BringBackOurGirls- The Effective Use of Social Media for Social Causes Ensues NYC Rallies

#BringOurGirlsHome and #BringBackOurGirls – Effective Use of Social Media for Social Cause. Whether you are on Facebook, Twitter or  LinkedIn, you can not escape the outcry of social media users requesting the return of over 200 girls that were kidnapped over two weeks ago.

We all know that Terrorism knows no boundary and does not spare even the innocent and helpless, it simply has no conscience. Nigeria has fallen victim to the latest horrific terrorism strike. More than 200 innocent female secondary school students were abducted by the Boko Haram sect right from the confines of their boarding school. Boko Haram sect is a group of insurgents operating in the Chibok area of North Eastern parts of Nigeria.

These young girls are being used as leverage in a conflict they did not make. Their innocent voices must be heard, one can only imagine the hell they’ve undergone in these past few weeks and the atrocities being committed to them this present moment. In the few past years, countries which have had turbulences caused by war, insurgencies and conflicts among other internal turbulences always lead to the children, girls and young women experiencing the most devastating impacts. This is because they are more vulnerable to these extensive attacks and dehumanizing conditions.

Social Media has heard the cry of the Mothers seeking support from the community. The community has responded by posting pictures all over the internet requesting that these young girls be brought home. In addition, the Mothers marched in Nigeria to gain support of their plight. The march in Nigeria was witnessed by the world and now, a group of supporters, will be gathering at Union Square (14th Street at University Place) in New York City on Saturday, May 3rd, 2014 from 12pm to 2pm to pray for these innocent girls. In addition, on May 10th, 2014 at 10am, a second rally will be held at the Nigerian Embassy (44th and 2nd Avenue) in order to continue to bring awareness about the atrocities being done to these young innocent girls. These Rallies will also give this situation the international media attention it deserves. These 234 innocent girls must be found and returned safely to their families and friends back home. The event welcomes relevant signs and posters you might have for this occasion.
